10th International QNX-Russia-2008 Conference Held in MoscowOn April 24, 2008, the 10th QNX-Russia Anniversary Conference took place at the Radisson SAS Slavyanskaya Hotel and Business Centre in Moscow, Russia. The Conference went Traditionally, SWD Software was the organizer of the event, with the support from QNX Software Systems (QSS). One of the pivotal information occasion for the recent conference was the innovative licensing program launched by QSS, which flexibly combines the best of the open source and commercial software licensing models. Opening access by QSS to the source code of its QNX Neutrino realtime operating system in September 2007 was a huge step toward the needs of the QNX community and resulted in a rise in the number of companies that have chosen the QNX Neutrino RTOS for their projects. Opening the QNX source codes had as well a significant influence on the evolution of the QNX ecosystem in Russia. In support of this advancement, a record number of companies wished to be sponsors of the Conference— among which were Intel, PROSOFT, Freescale, Connect Tech, Telelogic, Ezan, SWD embedded systems, Lebedev ITMiVT —and to take part in the conference exhibition. In the main program of the Conference, a plenary session was held along with four specialized panels as well as an exhibition of the QNX ecosystem. One of the most eagerly expected speeches in the plenary session was the presentation by Dan Dodge, cofounder of the QNX RTOS and CEO of QNX Software Systems. Mr Dodge presented to the audience the newest technology trends and tendencies in the world of embedded systems, and talked about the prospects and development of QNX technologies, and revealed QNX's intentions of seizing new markets. Another interesting presentation was made by Miroslav Mlezhnek of Intel Corp. and dealing with embedded components, tools and technologies designed by Intel. The final presentation in the plenary session was dedicated to Fastwel products for mission critical applications. This last presentation was made by a representative of PROSOFT, which is promoting Fastwel solutions on the Russian market. On the "QNX Products and Technologies" panel, a more deep presentation of QNX and Intel solutions was delivered, as well as a detailed description of the QNX hybrid licensing policy and elements of the new world-wide community of QNX developers. A presentation titled "Using Adaptive Partitioning Technology To Secure Guaranteed Access and To Build Robust Embedded Systems" and describing one of the key QNX technologies generated the greatest interest among conference participants. On the "Ecosystem of Hardware & Software Solutions" panel, speakers made presentations of products by Connect Tech, RealFlex, Freescale, and others. On the "Industry Solutions" panel, various solutions designed for telecommunications and energetics were demonstrated, and a discussion of compatibility issues relating to QNX solutions and other hardware & software products was held. A great interest was aroused among the audience by a presentation dedicated to SWDTimeMaster startup kits, which allow developers to deploy an out-of-the-box module, including the QNX Momentics development suite along with a target hardware platform, and to immediately start up developing target software. The "Secure RTOS-Based Solutions" panel was dedicated to QNX solutions that received a certificate from the State Technical Commission instituted by President of the Russian Federation. To increase opportunities for the mind&opinion exchange and to show a wide range of industry solutions, conference visitors were offered to examine a special exhibition of companies that are members of the QNX ecosystem, such as PROSOFT, Telelogic, Connect Tech, RealFlex, MicroMax Systems, Tekon, SWD Embedded Systems, Ezan, Natsilus, Lebedev ITMiVT, and SWD Software. On the grand closure of the conference, a ceremony of awarding was held to decorate companies and individual specialists who had taken an active part in developing and promoting QNX technologies in Russia and former Soviet Union countries. For example, Igor Slesarev of Vector-N7 received a personal award for his "Outstanding Contribution and Boundless Enthusiasm in Advancing QNX Community." In nomination "Best Business Partner in QNX Sales for 2006-2007," the apparent winner was PROSOFT, which had been SWD's partner since 1993. In nomination "For Extensive Use of QNX Innovative Technologies in Advanced Russian Projects," the team of Lebedev ITMiVT was awarded. In nomination "For Active Use of QNX Software Products in New Projects," Michael Pazulhin, system engineer of Prosoft, was awarded for projects in energy industry. Finally, QNX.ORG.RU web project was awarded for "Great Contribution in Development of Russian QNX Community." The conference's organizers expressed their gratitude to all companies that took active part in sponsoring the anniversary conference and presented them with commemorative souvenirs. Visitors of the conference had a chance to get a present as well. Winners of a quiz show devoted to the history of the QNX-Russia Conference. The lottery winner Vladimir Pismenni received an original prize, a QNX-based multifunctional remote control.
